COVID Update

Following the government's announcement yesterday, the Scout Association (SA) and the National Youth Agency (NYA) have removed the mandatory requirement to wear facemasks. However COVID has not gone away and therefore we still need to adopt various practices to minimise transmission:
· Face masks will be optional for Scouts, Explores and Adults - I know a number of adults / leaders have already said they will be wearing them where practical
· Lateral Flow tests should still be undertaken for Scouts, Explorers and Adults as per the rules at school (ideally in the day or two before meeting)
· Anyone with COVID symptoms should isolate and not attend section meetings
· Where possible we will be opening doors (and windows in the Forge) to improve airflow
· In the HQ we will use the fan (with heating if required) to improve airflow
· Key touch points will be wiped down as per the existing HQ cleaning requirements (which have not changed)
· Everyone should use hand sanitiser when they arrive (and leave) meetings unless exempt for various reasons such as allergies

Our priority is to keep young people and adults safe.

In line with government guidance all sections have now returned to face to face scouting, although we have had to tweak the section meetings times.  See the section pages on the website for more information (Link under Scouting on the menu).

Remembrance in 2020

This Remembrance Weekend the members of 3rd Epsom (St. Martin's) Scout Group have used their exercise to visit their local Cemetery, churchyard or memorial with their families to remember those who gave their lives for others. See our facebook page for the video.

Covid-19 Lockdowns but moved online

Like lots of activities, face to face Scouting was suspended from 17th March 2020, but 3rd Epsom have still continued in true Scouting spirit with meetings online. Over this period we have:
· held 72 Zoom meetings,
· gained over 260 badges,
· between us slept for 200 nights in tents or dens in our gardens and homes,
· seen magic shows,
· done lots of cooking,
· had drumming workshops,
· celebrated St Georges Day with an afternoon family activity,
· undertaken team challenges,
· improved our mapping skills, and
· thought about other people.

An HQ fit for the Future

3rd Epsom is a great Group with a strong family spirit and we want to keep all sections meeting on the same evening. This means kids get to know the leaders, leaders can job-share, sections work together and kids can move up to the next section on the same night of the week. But
- We’ve doubled our numbers since 2012!
- Now 112 kids Scouting, 145 by 2022...
- We have more adult leaders in the team
- We’ve adjusted meeting times
- We use the HQ & Forge & do activities outside too
We just need more space for our growing group. For more information please click here.

Facebook

We have setup facebook pages online for each of the sections in the group to keep members updated with activities and arrangements.

Please click here to view the Facebook pages.

They are closed groups for current parents attending the sections (and Explorers can also access the Explorer page). If your child leaves, you will be removed from the group pages. The pages will be used to post information, reminders and photos when appropriate. Please observe the following rules:
Only administrators to post on the group please - however comments on photos/posts most welcome
Please do not share photos/videos from the pages on your own personal page
Please do not tag anyone in any of the photos or videos.

Thank you!

If you have any questions please do ask one of the leaders.
