Beavers
Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. Young people can join Beavers in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday and they can move to the next section, Cubs, between seven years six months and eight years. Beavers wear turquoise sweatshirts and enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.
Beavers is run by the leader, Squirrel, along with help a number of Assistant Beaver Scout Leaders. The leaders, who take their names from woodland animals, are: Judith Sitford (Squirrel), Louise Prime (Hare), Crystal Vymeris (Kingfisher) and Anna Keith (Woodpecker).
There is also a parent rota and parents are asked to support one evening each term. Activities and the amount of support vary but we find that parents enjoy helping and seeing what their children do each week.
When your child begins Beavers it will take about a month for them to complete their Membership Award and give them a chance to settle in. Their investiture will take place at the end of that time. Uniform will be required for the investiture at which time they will be presented with the Group Badges.
Visit the Beaver page on the National Scout website by clicking here as it contains lots of information about badges and Beavers in general.
