3rd Epsom (St. Martin's) Scouts

Volunteering at 3rd Epsom Scout Group

Every adventure at 3rd Epsom Scout Group is made possible by volunteers. Whether it’s helping young people learn new skills, maintaining our headquarters, organising fundraising events or supporting behind the scenes, every volunteer makes a real difference. The good news is that volunteering is flexible. You don’t need previous Scouting experience, specialist skills or lots of spare time. Whether you can help every week, once a month or just occasionally, we’ll help you find a way to get involved that suits your interests, experience and availability.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering with Scouts is a rewarding way to:

  • Help young people develop skills for life.
  • Meet new people and become part of your local community.
  • Learn new skills and gain valuable experience.
  • Share your own hobbies, interests or professional expertise.
  • Make a lasting difference to young people in Epsom.

Many of our volunteers started as parents or carers who simply wanted to lend a hand for a few evenings. Others joined because they enjoyed Scouts when they were younger or wanted to give something back to their community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. Most of our volunteers have never been involved with Scouts before. We’ll provide all the support and learning you need, and you’ll be volunteering alongside experienced members of the team.

It’s entirely up to you. Some volunteers help every week, others once a month, a few times a year, or simply on camps and special events. Every contribution makes a difference.

Absolutely. Many of our volunteers are parents or carers who started by helping with their own child’s section and stayed because they enjoyed it. You can volunteer in your child’s section or elsewhere in the Group.

No. Many volunteers choose to wear Scout uniform if they’re regularly involved in delivering activities, but it isn’t required for every volunteering role.

Every volunteer receives a warm welcome and support from experienced volunteers. You’ll complete the required Growing Roots learning, including Safety and Safeguarding, and can access additional learning whenever you’d like to develop new skills.

Many volunteer roles require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to help keep young people safe. If your role requires one, we’ll guide you through the process and there is no cost to you or us.

That’s perfectly normal! Every volunteer brings different skills and experiences. Whether you enjoy organising, practical jobs, administration, working with young people, fundraising or simply lending a hand when needed, we’ll help you find a role that’s right for you.

Yes! We always welcome friends, partners and family members volunteering together. Many of our volunteers joined because someone they knew invited them along.
